Description
18th-19th century AD. A large copper-alloy processional cross with openwork pattern in the form of interlacing lines to form a cross pattern with sun, heart, flowers and knots with scrolling ends to the arms; to the base a tubular socket with two pellets to the centre, a collar to the middle and three triangular openings to the base with collar to the bottom. For a similar piece see The Walters Art Museum, accession number 54.2492. 1.24 kg, 46cm (18"). Property of North West London gentleman; acquired from a London collector in the late 1990s; previously in a private collection formed in the late 1980s-early 1990s.
