A good vintage signed postcard photograph of Welles in a close-up portrait pose in costume as Father Mapple from the film Moby Dick (1956). Signed by Welles in black fountain pen ink to the lower white border, also adding the title of the film ('Moby Dick') and date, 1955, in his hand alongside his signature. About EX Herman Melville's novel Moby Dick, which was published in 1851, was initially a commercial failure, however, its reputation as a 'Great American Novel' was established during the 20th century with William Faulkner confessing that he wished he had written it himself and D. H. Lawrence declaring it 'one of the strangest and most wonderful books in the world' as well as 'the greatest book of the sea ever written'.
