Romae Antiquae Notitia: Or, The Antiquities Of Rome, In Two Parts
London: T. Child and R. Knaplock, 1708. [16],xxx,375,[29]p. 5 x 8"; Panel binding with 5 raised bands on spine, slight stain to front cover, hinges professionally repaired, tanned endpapers with some foxing throughout, contains a frontispiece, an engraving on the titlepage, and 13 final leaves containing an index and bibliography, with a final advertisement leaf, in very good condition.
Basil Kennett (1674 - 1715) was born at Postling, Kent. Basil was a younger brother of White Kennett, bishop of Peterborough. He was educated at Corpus Christi College and graduated with a B.A. in 1693, an M.A. in 1696. He was plagued with bad health throughout his life, attributed to the climate and his dislike of exercise. He authored five books, poetry and some translated works. This book was first published in 1696. Some of it's beautiful panels include the Art of War, Beasts, Games, Shows and Gladiators.
