CIVIL WAR ERA HARPER'S WEEKLY RICHMOND, VIRGINIA / JAMES RIVER MAP / PRINT, hand-colored, with map to top third, titled "MAP OF THE / JAMES RIVER ETC. / FROM RICHMOND TO THE OCEAN", above image titled "THE CITY OF RICHMOND, VIRGINIA", depicting a panoramic view of the city from across the James River, with soldiers entering the city across a bridge, under a building flying the "Stars and Bars" First Flag of the Confederacy, artillery train in the foreground with group of officers in corner. Exquisitely matted and housed under glass in modern gilt frame. 1862. 14 7/8" x 21 1/8" sight, 25" x 31" OA.
Excellent condition, with expected crease lines, one short tear to bottom margin, which does not enter image. Not examined out of frame.
Provenance: From an Alexandria, VA collection.
Catalogue Note: The soldiers in the foreground were hand-colored to have blue uniforms, but the flags visible in scene are certainly the First Flag of the Confederacy, or the "Stars and Bars", which was the official flag of the Confederate States from March, 1861 to May, 1863.

Condition

Excellent condition, with expected crease lines, one short tear to bottom margin, which does not enter image. Not examined out of frame.
