Description
SHENANDOAH VALLEY OF VIRGINIA STAVE-TYPE WOVEN-SPLINT BASKETS, LOT OF TWO, white oak, each circular form with X-wrapped rim, kick up to bottom, arched handle, and dry natural surface. Together with a garden basket of similar construction, possibly by the same family of basketmakers, retaining an old painted surface. Three pieces total. Probably by a member of the Nichols family of basketmakers, Page Co., VA. Late 19th/first half 20th century. The first two 4 1/2" H to rim, 10" DOA, and 6 3/4" H rim, 13 3/4" DOA, garden basket 9" H rim, 14 3/4" DOA.
