AMERICAN SCHOOL (19TH CENTURY) PORTRAIT OF A MILITARY OFFICER, oil on canvas, sitter gazing askance, wearing double-breasted coat with epaulettes and a draped black cloak or overcoat, likely original stretchers and canvas bearing "EDW. DECH. / NEW YORK" merchant's stamp verso. Housed in a 19th-century molded-walnut frame with gilt sight edge. Third quarter 19th century. 18 3/4" x 14 3/4" sight, 23 3/4" x 19 3/4" OA.
Very good visual condition with minor inpainting to forehead, nose, cheek, chin, and parts of clothing. Frame with minor wear.
