Description
A gift from a member of Hermann Fegelein's Florian Geyer Division of the German Cavalry, one of the most famous of the equestrian troops of Germany. The man known as “Hans” presented this silver compact to his “Allerliebste” (most-favorite girl) Greta, and the inscription reads: “In memory of his service on the Eastern Front.” Below this dedication is a horse’s head within a horseshoe in high relief, and below this is a complicated added figure in gold, likely something the SS trooper liberated from a Russian religious article. On the backside of the piece, the trooper shows his regimental identity in the Third Squadron of the SS-Reiterregiment 1 of the Eighth SS Cavalry Division “Florian Geyer.” Under this is the divisional symbol with horsehead and sword and under this the date is shown as “1942.” The compact is octagon shaped and measures 3 x 3 inches all around. It is a half-inch deep. The compact is in very good condition with one small dent on the reverse side under the word “Geyer”. This lot has a reserve.
