The Niagara carried the first Japanese diplomats to visit the US (in 1860), where they met President James Buchanan in the White House, back to Japan. It plays a large role in the introduction of modern, post-industrial revolutionary technology into Japan in the 19th century--it is a pre-Civil War steamship.

In generally good condition apart from being relined, with a network of concentric crazing and discolored varnish throughout.
