Description
Rare 16-page football program and $1.10 bleacher ticket stub from December 7, 1941, for a "Leeman's Day" game between the New York Giants and the Brooklyn Dodgers football teams at the Polo Grounds in honor of Tuffy Leemans, star member of the New York Giants from 1936-1943. The ticket stub shows the game began at 2:05 PM; given the time difference, this was about the same time the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor began six time zones to the west. While the game was in progress, the stadium announcer paged Col. William "Wild Bill" Donovan to answer a call from Washington, and issued instructions for all servicemen in attendance to return to their units, but it was only when the game let out that players and spectators learned of the attack. This program is a rare survivor from that world-changing day. 10" H X 7" W.
