(Booker T. Washington) (1856-1915) Educator, activist. Washington was one of the foremost African-American leaders of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, founding the Tuskegee Normal and Industrial Institute, now known as Tuskegee University. His book, Up From Slavery, Sun Dial Press, 1937, signed inside the front cover by his son “Cordially Yours E. D. Washington (son of Booker T. Washington) Tuskegee Inst. Ala. April 15, 1938”.Moderate soiling to the dust jacket, which has been protected. Ernest "Davidson" Washington (1889-1938) was Washington’s eldest son.
