Yizchak Ben-Zvi (1884-1963) Israeli politican leader. When Israel gained its independence, Ben-Zvi was among the signers of its Declaration of Independence on May 14, 1948. He served in the First and Second Knesset for the Mapai party. He was elected President of Israel in 1952, and continued to serve in the position until his death in 1963. .He believed that the president should set an example for the public and his home should reflect the austerity of the times.
