Estimated less than 50 yrs. old.Art Brut or Brutalist: literally translated from French means raw art, in that it has not been through the structured world of art schools, galleries and museums. Originally art by psychotic individuals who existed almost completely outside culture and society termed Outsider Art. The term outsider art was coined by art critic Roger Cardinal in 1972 as an English synonym for art brut a label created by French artist Jean Dubuffet to describe art created outside the boundaries of official culture.
