Description
Pre-Columbian, Northern Peru, Chimu culture, ca. 1100 to 1470 CE. A beautiful mold-made blackware vessel in a characteristic avian form, with a flat and stable base, broad head, large protruding beak, small circular eyes, bulbous body with stylized legs at its side, broad rectangular tail with a hole in the center, and a wide flared spout on top. A playful example of a utilitarian vessel. Size: 9.25" L x 4" W x 6.5" H (23.5 cm x 10.2 cm x 16.5 cm).

Condition
Spout repaired from several pieces. Surface wear commensurate with age, minor losses to spout rim and center of tail, with nice root marks and deposits throughout. A coral-colored sticker on the base can be seen with blue ink, possibly from previous owner.
