Description
oil on canvas, signed and dated 1996 on the verso, framed.
DOA 65.5 x 61 in.
Belzer studied at the New York Studio School, Barnard College, and Bennington College. Now living on the West Coast with her husband, the author Michael Pollan, this painting was completed while she lived in Cornwall, CT. Rather than painting from photographs or sketches, Belzer paints from her remembrances of walks and wanderings through the natural world. She views nature "as an active force in our experience" and translates this into her semi-abstract and lyrical canvases. (Guthmann, Edward. (2008, October 13) "Judith Belzer has a feel for the natural world." SFGate)
In 2016, the Guilford College Art Gallery presented paintings by Judith Belzer in an exhibition titled Canal Zone: Recent Work from the Panama Project.
Judith Belzer and Gary Weisman: Nature & Form, Berry-Hill Galleries, Inc., New York, NY, Oct. 9 - Nov. 1, 1997.
From the Collection of Esther B. Ferguson, Secessionville Manor, Charleston, SC
