Emily Eden was a poet and novelist. These letters were written while on an extended tour of Northern India with her sister Fanny between 1837 and 1840, while her brother George Eden, 1st Earl of Auckland was in residence as Governor-General of that country. The letters give a fascinating glimpse of nineteenth century colonial India from the perspective of the ruling class. A handsome, finely bound set.
