Item Details

Description

Colorful, large, well-painted, Imari charger that will make a very striking addition to your dÃ©cor. It can definitely be seen across a room.
A large round porcelain Japanese charger that has a slight rise to the edge. There are three design panels on the outer edge. They consist of boats on the water with a tree in the foreground. These panels are separated by under glaze decorated cobalt panels. There is a central medallion of a landscape scene with well-placed mountains, and forests. The designs are very colorful. Cobalt blue was used in the first firing to make a base pattern. These were then over glazed in red, orange, green, and gray. Black has been used to outline and accent. The underside of the charger has interpretive foliate designs in cobalt blue with additional cobalt blue lines around the foot ring. The glaze has a thick and smooth feeling and visually is shiny.
The charger has a shallow foot ring that is not glazed while the base is. The underside also shows small sager marks. There are no marks or labels.
MEASUREMENTS 14 3/8â€ (36.5 cm) diameter. 1 Â¾â€ (4.4 cm) tall. Weighs 4 lb 1.2 oz (1.85 kg)
CONDITION There are no chips, cracks, or breaks, and the charger rings like a bell. There are painting and kiln flaws such as dimples, cobalt smudges on the underside, a few tiny wear scratches on the central medallion, and some gilding loss on the cobalt. The glazes are fresh and bright.
