Description
Circa 1815, possibly Duncan Phyfe, New York. Rectangular top with shaped drop leaves over single frieze drawer, supported on reeded urn pedestal emitting four acanthus carved saber legs terminating in brass paw feet. H29†W49 ½†(open) D38†Note: The acanthus leg carving on this table is identical to the leg carving on a table made by Phyfe for Catharine Livingston illustrated on page 303 “Duncan Phyfe and English Regency 1795-1830†by Nancy McClelland. This book’s addenda also illustrates this leg, in detail, from “Furniture Masterpieces of Duncan Phyfe†by Charles Cornelius.
Condition
Good sturdy condition. Leaves are original to the table and one board each. Carving at base is in good condition throughout. Some slight veneer losses and patches at the front of the case. Older finish. Overall good condition wear consistent with age.
