Description
A four piece set of white china and a brown/tan ceramic pitcher decorated in a Southwestern style from Lyndon B. Johnson's Texas ranch. Containing a demitasse cup and saucer, and a dinner bowl and a plate, the five dining accessories feature classical Southwest iconographies such as an old-timey Saloon and Post Office, cacti, a rancher's fence and donkey, a covered wagon, bucking bronco and cowboys around a campfire playing music.
During President Johnson's administration, the LBJ Ranch was known as the "Texas White House" because the President spent approximately twenty percent of his time in office there and would often host leaders of the world. This four piece set resonated strongly with LBJ and was utilized often, as his youth and much of his adulthood were spent on this ranch.
President Johnson was the first President to create a functioning White House away from Washington. Designated as a National Historic Park in December 1980, the LBJ historic site includes the President's first school, birthplace, Texas White House, and the Johnson Family Cemetery, where both President and Lady Bird Johnson are buried.
