Description
A collection of items from the "Honey Fitz," the presidential yact during the John F. Kennedy administration. there is a folded booklet dinner menu from 14 June, 1961, on cream light cardstock with Presidential Seal emblazoned in gold on the front, a typewritten "back up menu", a list of stores, accounts of the cost of food for various meals, lists of the alcoholic beverages on board, and guest lists. Many of the items pertain to a dinner given on June 14, 1961, by Mrs. Rusk in honor of Mrs. Dirk Stikker, wife of the Secretary General of NATO. The attendees of the dinner were all women, other guests included Mrs. van Roijen, wife of the Ambassador of the Netherlands, Mrs. Robert S. McNamara, wife of the Secretary of Defense, and Dr. Anna L. Rose Hawkes, President of the American Association of University Women. Approx. 15 x 9"
The 92' "Honey Fitz" was also utilized by Presidents Truman, Eisenhower, and Nixon under different names, however the Kennedys were particularly fond of the vessel. The boat was used primarily for family and close friends, though dignitaries visited from time to time.
These items come directly from the Hirschy family. Lieutenant Hirschy was Supply and Logistics Officer for the Military Aides to the President and Officer-in-Charge of the Navy Mess in the White House during both the Kennedy and Johnson administrations. His duties also included taking care of the President's needs on overseas trips, aboard the presidential yachts and at Camp David. Lt. Hirschy served in the White House from May 1, 1961 through May 31, 1965.
