An elegant sterling silver thimble made in the USA circa 1880. This thimble is bright-cut and has a repeating dot pattern around the curving thimble at the top, with alternating abstract patterning around the base. Also on the base the word "Nannie" has been engraved to add a personal touch to this object. The bright cut work is very nice, and this item remains in great condition for its age.; Historically used as functional object for women who were in need of making hand stitching an easier and safer activity, today, thimbles are a wonderful collector's item. They are tiny yet elaborate, and each one quite unique, telling a story of its own. Because thimbles were always personal objects, used by only one person, even thimbles that were machine made started taking on a charming hand-made feel after much use. Measures 7/8 of an inch and weighs approximately 5 grams.
