Description
Scarce in scarce dj – Bandit of Paloduro, Chas. Ballew
A very scarce first edition in a scarce dust jacket. Charles Ballew is one of the pseudonym of Charles H. Snow, one of the most prolific writers of all time, publishing 465 novels under both his own name and up to a dozen pseudonyms, such as Gary Marshall, Ranger Lee, and H.C. Averill. Stricken blind due to an accident in his late thirties, he turned to writing as a way to make a living. Throughout his career, he would dictate the stories to his daughter, who would transcribe them on a typewriter and send them to the publisher, usually Wright & Brown of London. In 1955, he was elected honorary president of the Western Writers Association. He was working on a new book when he died in 1967 at the age of 90. Top of page edges dyed black. No major defects in bright orange binding. Small areas of discoloration at portions of front joint and a little at small portions of rear joint. Minor rubbing at lower tips and spine end; tiniest fray at one corner of lower spine end and a tiny nick at top spine end. Lower tips bumped slightly. Spine just barely sunned. Jacket has clean, colorful illustration with large horizontal tear across front, two tears along front joint and horizontal tear across width of spine. Large chips at spine ends. Chipping at fold ends. Sunned somewhat at spine and rear fold. Endpapers tanned; pages lightly tanned. 291 pages. 5.5 x 7.75. Very good plus in good jacket.
