JUDITH LAUAND (1922-1994) Title: Untitled, Medium: Oil on board, Date: c.1966, Size: 14 x 11 in. COA. Concrete, pop and experimental painter. In 1950, she graduated from the School of Fine Arts of Araraquara, SĂ£o Paulo, where she learned painting. Two years later, she moved to SĂ£o Paulo and studied engraving. She works as a monitor at the 2nd Biennial of SĂ£o Paulo, in 1954, and comes in contact with the concrete painting of Geraldo de Barros and Alexandre Wollner. In that year, she made her first solo exhibition at Galeria Ambiente in SĂ£o Paulo. In 1955 she is invited by Waldemar Cordeiro to join the "Grupo Ruptura" being the only woman until the end of the group. She joined the Konkrete Kunst exhibition in Zurich in 1960. She received the Leirner Prize for Contemporary Art in 1958. In 1996, the Sylvio Nery da Fonseca Art Office in SĂ£o Paulo gave her a retrospective exhibition, focusing in particular on her work of the 1950s.
