Item Details
Description
Eva Zeisel, a Tea Set comprising a Teapot with lid (model 3211), two Cups and Saucers (model 3214), and two Dessert Plates (model 3003). Schramberger Majolika-Fabrik, Schramberg, Germany, circa 1929-35. Décor No. 3525 (later nicknamed Mondrian White). Height of Teapot 5 in. (12.7 cm); length over handle: 10 in. (25.4 cm). 1620-003.
Provenance: Rainier Etzrodt.
Exhibited: San Francisco, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, 5 May 2003; San Francisco, Limn Furnishings, 7 May 2003 (two Cups and Saucers and two Dessert Plates only).
Note: Zeisel did not design a dessert plate for Schramberg; model 3003 is a shape designed prior to her tenure used to complete services she had devised. On Zeisel’s work for the Schramberger Majolikafabrik, see Pat Moore, “Schramberger Majolikafabrik,” in Eva Zeisel: Life, Design, and Beauty, 2013, pp. 46-51.
Condition
Overall good condition. The top of the Teapot (nearest the spout) with some small areas of repair; the foot of the teapot with a small break and repair (about ¾ of an inch in length, slightly discolored); one of the saucers apparently with a different colored glaze on underside, possibly from a repair. Otherwise, some scattered tiny nicks typical of age, use, and material.
