GEORGE WASHINGTON BACON (American 1830-1922) A RARE ANTIQUE VICTORIAN HAND COLORED STEEL PLATE ENGRAVING, 1874, "Bacon's Pictorial View of the World," watercolor and ink on paper, mounted to linen, the whole with reserves including themes of "Great Battles of the World," "The Universal Time Dial Plate: Showing the Time in 45 Cities when Noon in London," "Arms and Flags of Nations," "Coins of All Nations (exact size)," "Hemispherical Map," "Comparative Views of Mountains, Rivers, and Waterfalls," "Great Discoveries and Inventions," "Female Costumes of the World," "The Solar System," "Global Populations by City," and "Map of Religions of Mankind," G.W. Bacon & Co. 127 Strand, likely printed for use in the London International Exhibition, 1874, 39" x 29" NOTE: Born in Lockport, New York, George Washington Bacon engraved, imported and sold maps in the United States and England.
Condition
A yellow tone throughout, profuse cracks, holes, some flea size foxing spots, losses throughout, but overall in fair to good condition, wear commensurate with age and use.
