AN IMPRESSIVE LOUIS XV STYLE GILT BRONZE MOUNTED KINGWOOD AND "VERNIS MARTIN" VITRINE, 20TH CENTURY, of serpentine form, the large central pierced rocaille crest surmounting a sloped cornice flanked by a pair of frontal facing winged siren monopodia, each with a fashionable pouf, surmounting the rose silk damask lined display case interior, viewable through each of the five shaped sides, comprised of three-quarter clear bowed glazed rectangular apertures framed by applied rinceaux banding, over hand painted polychrome scenic panels, the central of a courting couple resting after picking a basket of red apples amidst a verdant landscape, signed "C. Gilbert," the secondary oval panels of winged cherubs and bucolic landscapes, reversing to an additional concealed storage compartment, the whole raised on shaped full length adorned supports ending in cartouche and shell form pierced sabots, the display compartment wired and equipped for lighting. Structurally sound and in excellent condition. General wear, such as scuffs, scratches and age cracks throughout, as well as repairs and restorations as is expected for the age of the piece. It is probable that, although in the style of the period, the hardware has been replaced.
