Barbara HunterÕs homebred graded stakes winner Dogtooth Violet was named for a species of spring-flowering bulb native to the western United States and Canada. Miss Hunter was raised on a cattle ranch in Montana. Dogtooth Violet, the mare, won HialeahÕs Grade 2 Black Helen Handicap and Gulfstream ParkÕs Grade 3 Orchid Handicap. She won or placed in nine stakes and earned more than $190,000 between 1972 and 1975.
