Description
A lovely Roman bronze lamp, 1st Century AD, said to be from Herculaneum, the cylindrical body with ring foot, ridged fill-hole and flat top with outer ledge, the spout long and rounded with collared wick hole. At back is a handle decoration in the form of a large crescent with pellets at each point, a small suspension at center and behind the wick-hole which supports the original suspension chain and original lid. 4 1/2 in x 3 in (11.4 x 7.6 cm). A beautiful example with mottled brown-green patination and volcanic deposits. Ex Malter Galleries, CA.
