A Matthew Boulton Silver and Cut-Glass Epergne, Birmingham, England, 1825
Marks: (lion passant), (anchor), (duty mark), B, MB
19-3/8 inches high x 19 inches wide (49.2 x 48.3 cm)
177.37 troy ounces (weighable)
The epergne having central cut-glass bowl held aloft by foliate crown emanating from tripartite armature centered around floral bulb, three scrolled arms emanating from standard with conforming acanthus leaf motif hoisting cut-glass bowls, bulbous gadrooned orb above foliate hexagonal flared base engraved with armorial crest and motto EEN DO AND SPARE NOT, raised on six scrolled feet.
Included with the present lot are three candlecups which fit the arms in place of bowl frames, marked for Birmingham firm Robinson, Edkins & Aston, (REA, lion passant), circa 1833-1846.
Lot is housed in a late 19th century custom-fitted oak case.

Condition
The epergne presents well, with some denting and waviness to standard towards base, other scattered minor pin dents with small dent to center bulb, glass elements of a later vintage, glass elements with minor scattered fleabiting and flaking, errant warping to grapevine rims to married candlecups, few possible old repairs to ridges of hexagonal base only apparent from underside, with wear commensurate with age, polishing, and use.
