1705 map of Asia by Nicholas de Fer. Copperplate engraving of L’Asie Dressee sur Divers Relations by Nicholas de Fer. With a 1705 date but from the Petit et Nouveau Atlas, 1723 edition. Shows the whole of Asia in the early 18th century. Light water stains at top into image; light water stain at bottom in the margin only. Tiny bit of chipping in lower right corner. 8 x 10.75 in. on 10.25 x 12.25 in. sheet
Nicolas de Fer (1646-1720) was a French cartographer, geographer, engraver, and publisher. During his prolific career, de Fer focused on artistry rather than accuracy, and as a result, his decorative maps often contain unique geographical errors.
