Description
Southeast Asia, Thailand, late Neolithic, Ban Kao culture, ca. 2000 BCE to late 1st millennium BCE. A fine, polished shouldered stone adze found in Nan Province, Thailand, near the Laos Border. The stone is mainly dark green with brown-green inclusions. Ban Kao is a mound in southeast Thailand that has been excavated to reveal an ancient village with numerous burials. Polished stone adzes in a variety of shapes and sizes have been found with these burials, with individuals almost all placed extended on their backs with adzes beside them and pots placed at strategic points around them. Size: 2.3" W x 6.1" H (5.8 cm x 15.5 cm)
