Gold, lacquer, glass and wood. Japan, 18th to fr. 19th cent.
Small, four-story inro with black lacquer (kuro-urushi) and unfortunately only partially preserved decoration depicting various leafs in golden hiramaki-e. Golden nashiji inside. The spherical, shiny red cord fastener is made of coral-like glass. The netsuke depicts a monkey sitting in front of a large, round ball, possibly a melon. The monkey looks very much like a man, though it does have a tail.
Condition report: Visible signs of use on the inro.
