Item Details
Description
Second half of 20th century. Manufacturer - Vietnam. Ceramics, painting. Height 78 cm, diameter 30.5 cm
Chinas little sister Vietnam has always wanted to be on good terms with her big neighbouring countries, especially after the infamous Vietnam War. In the hope of maintaining a good relationship with the budding communist empire USSR, its ambassador in Vietnam was gifted this vase. The mausoleums depicted on it serve as symbols of unity. One side of the vase is adorned with the mausoleum of Vietnam’s war hero and founding father, the ardent communist Ho Chi Min, which looks like Mao’s mausoleum in Beijing, while the other side features Lenin’s Mausoleum from Red Square in Moscow, which was one of the most powerful symbols of modern history at the time. The ruling power believed that the tombs of their national leaders mummified remains had the ability to guide and bring the people together.
