Description
The fascinating Caribbean map from de Fer's Atlas Curieux features an elegant title carttouche and historical and geographical notes. The map extends north to the Bahamas and the tip of southern Florida and encompasses the eastern end of the Yucatan, parts of Central America, Panama and the northwest coast of South America.
Nicolas de Fer (1646-1720) was a French cartographer, geographer, engraver, and publisher. During his prolific career, de Fer focused on artistry rather than accuracy, and as a result, his decorative maps often contain unique geographical errors.
