Description
Spectacular Black Opal vase with pine cones and pine needles, sycamore leaves and seed pods and oak leaves done with incising and slip decoration by Kataro Shirayamadani in 1929. A tour-de-force of local trees done in browns, reds, greens and black with the wonderful blue hazing associated with Black Opal glaze. Marks include the Rookwood logo, the date, shape number 614 C and Shirayamadani's cypher in black slip. Height 12 5/8 inches. Uncrazed and very clean.
