This lovely, oil painting, of a serene beach scene with a large rock in the foreground, signed by the famous artist, Lionello Balestreri has been in my family since purchased in the1950's. The painting is a framed oil on board, set in a fancy, molded gilt craquelure frame with a stucco type mat, and framed under glass. There are the normal signs of aging on the frame, which adds to its uniqueness and beauty. Both the photo and framing are original and have never been "restored", The artist is Lionello Balestreri, an Italian painter from Cetona and Siena, who lived from 1872 - 1958 and studied under Domenico Morelli and Gioacchino Toma. There is a framer's label on the back, with the name and address in Torino, Italy. The image measures 7 1/4" x 5 1/4"; the overall framed painting is 11 1/2" x 13 3/4".
