PRESSED THREE-PRINTIE BLOCK VASE, brilliant deep amethyst, boldly flared plain rim and medium conical bowl with lower knop, joined by a thin wafer to a ring-topped octagonal baluster-form standard and square base. Probably Boston & Sandwich Glass Co. 1845-1860. 10" high, 5 1/8" diameter rim, 3 1/8" square base.
Reference: Published B & K II, fig. 2102b, and B & K III, fig. 3035.
Wilson/Toledo, fig. 692, and color plate p. 258.
McKearin Am. Glass, pl. 197, fig. 5.
Provenance: The Duff & Molly Allen Collection. Art & Kathy Green, 9/22/02. Ex-coll: Raymond E. Barlow
Note: This vase represents an excellent example of adaptive mold use often seen in Sandwich products. The upper portion of the vase was produced from the mold designed for the Three-Printie Block lamp font, but instead of closing the top to form the font dome, it was expanded to form a vase
Undamaged except for two minute flakes to lower base edge, 1/4" scratch to inner rim, several milky surface impurities/bubbles at rim as made
