Pupil of J. van de WIELE in Kortrijk, then at the Academy of that city, where he was distinguished in 1820 and 1824. Doctor of Law at Ghent (1830). Appointed as a lawyer in 1835. Appointed to the Ministry of Finance in Brussels (1840) where he settled. He devoted himself seriously to painting after 1833, and was influenced by his masters J.B. De JONGHE and E. VERBOECKHOVEN. Also inspired by the work of French BRASCASSART introduces realism in animal art. First exhibition in 1835 in Ghent. Works with the realistic Ch.
