Description
A sterling silver carving set by Stieff in their stunning repoussé Rose pattern. Handles are made of sterling silver and the blades are stainless steel. The condition of this set is very good; the set has a nice polish to it and the blade is quite sharp. The fork measures 8.5 inches and the knife measures 9.5 inches. Each is marked with "stainless" and also with The Stieff Co. Together they weigh approximately 159 grams.
The rose pattern is has great texture and is very intricate, with individually designed flowers. Makes a beautiful set for special occasions. The S. Kirk & Son Company Rose designs were carried on by Stieff in this style between 1896-1924. This is a later set, from the 1920's.
The Stieff Company, located in Baltimore, Maryland, was founded in 1892 and became known as Kirk-Stieff in 1979. It is renowned for the quality and value of its silver products, along with its elegant hand-chasing and Repoussé work. Its most well-known pattern, introduced in 1892, is Maryland or Stieff Rose.
