Central Asia, India, Orissa, ca. end of 19th to early 20th century CE. A stunning glass bead necklace made by the Orissa culture composed of eighteen strands of multicolored glass seed beads (amounting to hundreds of beads), with four pairs of larger cherry red beads placed symmetrically at the lower end and toward the nape of the neck where the ends are joined by a twisted macrame cord clasp and a pom pom like terminal. During special rituals on their calendar, Orissa men and women dress in ceremonial clothing and ornaments, including stunning necklaces like this one. So striking and absolutely wearable! Size: 29" L (73.7 cm); larger red beads measure .25" L x .375" in diameter (0.6 cm x 1 cm)
