Description
Ancient Egypt, Late Period, ca. 664 to 323 BCE. A solid, cast bronze statue of Osiris, god of the afterlife, bearded, mummiform and holding his crook and flail. He wears a conical crown (the White Crown, Hedget) with a uraeus at the front, the snake's tail rising atop the crown. The tenon on the underside would have attached the piece to an original wooden base, now lost. This statue was likely dedicated at a temple or shrine to the God in thanks for, or in anticipation of, a favor. Size: 2" W x 7.375" H (5.1 cm x 18.7 cm)
