. A specimen of metallic cadmium; Dr. Weller writes: One of only three specimens of singular mining and mineralogical interest. In the late 18th c. the German chemist Martin Heinrich Klaproth (1743-1817) was working in the Dolcoath Mine Assay Office. He succeeded in extracting from [the] mine's Sphalerite sufficient Cadmium (otherwise unknown in Cornwall!) to cast a 150mm x 10mm rod of pure Cadmium. My maternal Great Grandfather, the Cornish mineral dealer, Henson, acquired this unique specimen. I divided it into three, one third is in my own collection, one third gifted to my close friend Juan Perez Maria Sempere in Barcelona. This final rod is offered... Toxic. 30 grams, 73mm (3"). He had joined the RAF as a young man and spent 22 years in developing sophisticated military radar technology (for which he was awarded his MBE) until he medically retired in 1969, after which he established Yonder Town Field Studies Centre in Newquay, Cornwall before moving to Pendeen.
