Description
NATIVE AMERICAN STONE POINT / BLADE, chert with yellow and gray streaks, "clipped wing" Saint Charles/dovetail type. Presented in a butterfly case. . Hardin, KY. Early Archaic period, 9500-8000 B.P. 4 1/8" L.
Excellent as-found condition, only a few minute flakes.
Provenance: Private collection of Wallace Gusler, Williamsburg, VA._x000D_
Found by Jerry Meriwether in Hardin, KY.
Catalogue Note: Per Mr. Gusler, "This example is in excellent condition. It has two very small flakes off the point and one on the barb of the base. These more recent breaks serve to show the deep patination of the blade. The form is a fairly rare Saint Charles, called "clipped wing", because of the angled flaking of the main blade shoulders. As with all Archaic points, the base is finely ground."
