Description
Large and scarce 19th century railroad map of Texas in fine condition. Highly detailed railroad map from the extremely scarce 1898 Cram’s Bankers and Brokers Railroad Atlas published by George F. Cram. All railroads and routes operating during that time period are listed with routes shown by colors. An unusual feature of this map includes the names and locations of many springs and wells—a great historical reference. All Cram’s Bankers and Brokers Railroad Atlases are exceedingly scarce…many sources aren’t even in agreement how often it was published. Playing card shown for size comparison. 16.25 x 22.25 inches.
George F. Cram (1842-1928) served in the U.S. Army during the American Civil War. After the war ended, Cram joined his uncle Rufus Blanchard's Evanston map business in 1867. Two years later, he became sole proprietor of the firm and renamed it the George F. Cram Co. which became a leading map firm and first American firm to publish a world atlas.
