First half 19th century, 79 x 105 cm, Central Asia, West Turkestan
A very finely woven chuval by the Karadashli who belonged to the confederation of Yomut tribes. The red-brown field contains sixteen immaculately drawn primary güls and cruciform secondary güls. The small flowering trees seen in the main border were a popular design among the Karadashli. A thick velvety pile, brilliant colours. – Reduced along the sides, replaced selvedges, reduced upper and lower finishes, slight signs of age and wear in the pile, several reknotted sections.
