Description
Gilt bronze, size 12 1/4. Rounded face band with circular bezel hand cut with the Maltese Cross. Professionally refurbished with the gold overlay restored. The Maltese cross was the symbol of the Knights of Malta also known as the Knights Hospitaller of St John since 1126. The knights defended seven forts and 40 other estates in the Holy Land during the Crusades. During the period of this ring, the eight point cross was specific to them and this ring almost certainly was worn by a Knight of Saint John.
