Description
This is a very rare and unusual carved wooden image of the Merekun , a marionette used by the Bamana in ritual theater, This is quite an unusual example because it is a sculpture of Merekun puppet head on a seated torso, with an elongated form, but no arms, perhaps a suggestion of the living spirit of the Merekun marionettes. The Age and handling of this sculpture is genuine, it is quite old. From Mali, Africa. The statue measures 24.5 inches tall.
