Description
Dry lacquer, painted eyes, traces of former color with gold. Burma, 19th Century
Depicted is Buddha Shakyamuni on a multi-stepped throne with a smooth back, seated in the padmasana lotus position. The hands form the bhumisparsa mudra, the gesture of touching the earth, which declare Buddha's victory over Mara. Expressive facial features, downcast eyes, small nose and slightly pointed mouth. The expressions, the shape of the head and the type of the ears show the style of Ava Amarapura.
Shape: Figure of seated buddha Shakyamuni on a multi-stepped throne with a smooth back
Dimensions: HEIGHT 97 CM
Condition: Good condition with clearer signs of age and wear such as restored sections and little loss of material; the lotus bud on the ushnisha is missing
Provenance: From an old European collection
