DESCRIPTION: John Arms Jr (American, 1887-1953). 1921 etching on paper featuring a harbor scene. Signed lower right. Numbered 32/78. Titled upon the reverse "The Sara Jane". Black frame with mat and glass. John Taylor Arms, Jr. was active/lived in Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, District Of Columbia. John Arms Jr is known for etching, illustration, teaching. He was a member of principal art organizations including the National Institute of Arts and Letters, and he wrote several books on prints and printmaking including Handbook on Printmaking and Printmakers. PROVENANCE: From the collection of Dr. Beate A. Schiwek (1943-2016), Chambersburg, PA. Dr. Schiwek was the Dean and Chief Academic Officer at Felician College in Lodi, NJ, Wilson College in Chambersburg, PA and Rosemont College in Rosemont, PA. While at Felician, she became the first dean of a private college to serve as National President of the Council of Colleges at Arts & Sciences. MEASUREMENTS: 10-1/8" x 7-1/4". Overall with frame and mat 17-1/2" x 14-1/4". CONDITION: Minor toning and undulation. Minor wear to frame.
