British, ca. 1900. A group of two vanity traveling boxes, including:ÂÂ
one rectangular box by Mechi of London, having burlwood veneer, hinged lid opening to interior with removable tray, eight sterling-capped glass containers, seven mother-of-pearl-handled dresser implements, and lower drawer having velvet-lined compartments; includes key; marked for maker on drawer and underside of each cap, and sterling marked with Victorian and London hallmarks;ÂÂ
and one cylindrical box by Asprey of London, comprised of leather and with four sterling-capped glass bottles on interior; marked Ophelia / Cincinnati on top of lid, for maker on underside, and caps marked with London hallmarks;ÂÂ
Mechi box ht. 7, wd. 12, dp. 8.5 in.
Condition
Mechi box: repair to removable tray on interior, cracking and spots of loss to veneer, and spots where it's started to peel.ÂÂ
Asprey box: closing strap missing, leather on hinge is quite worn, and some cracks and discoloration to leather. Silver is tarnished.ÂÂ
