Description
FRANCE, LATE 17TH-18TH CENTURY A fine and rare pair of French hand-woven opposing tapestries of Charles VII and military commander Jean de Dunois (John of Orleans). Charles VII is depicted youthful with angel-like wings in fur trimmed ceremonial garb with a dagger and sword equipped gold baldric standing on a mosaic tile floor over a Fleur-de-Lis pattern background. Dunois is depicted youthful in full military plate armor with large feather plume helmet and chest plate bearing the Count of Longueville coat of arms standing on a mosaic tile floor over a Fleur-de-Lis pattern background. Each tapestry bears the Count of Longueville coat of arms in the upper right and left corners respectively. Notice the intricate petit point needlework within the face and hands of each tapestry. Each tapestry retains its original label from Adolph Newman and Son Fine Art, Philadelphia.
